(AP) — Cumberland County investigators didn't need to guess at a description of the suspect in a cell phone theft. The suspect provided it himself.
The sheriff's office said the suspect stole the smartphone on May 17 and used it to take pictures of himself. What he didn't realize was that the phone automatically archived the photo and uploaded them to a picture-sharing website where the owner could access them.
Sheriff's department spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said 33-year old James Matthews of Fayetteville is charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods. He's free from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $2,000 unsecured bond. A phone listing for Matthews couldn't be found Wednesday, and it's not known if he has an attorney.
Matthews is scheduled for a court date on June 26.
